HackLolla is an open challenge that will reward the best implemented, most creative and most impactful web and mobile apps.

HackLolla is a sponsor of Music Hack Day and will be presenting details about the challenge in San Francisco over the weekend. We?ve seen a number of very cool uses of our data in past years, with people just grabbing it manually. This year we want to help those fans take their explorations to a new level.?

About Perry Farrell

Perry Farrell is one of the most influential and original musical figures in recent history. Dubbed as the "Godfather of Alternative Rock," Farrell fronts Jane's Addiction which formed in 1985. Creating a new genre and musical movement, Farrell and Jane's Addiction changed the music scene and paved the way for bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and STP. In 1993, Perry created Porno for Pyros, a daring evolution to his diversity and growth. As well as being a groundbreaking musician, he is the creator and founder of Lollapalooza.

Launched in 1991, SPIN magazine listed Lollapalooza as the #1 tour that changed the world. Known for its musical diversity, Lollapalooza was instrumental in exposing alternative music formats to the masses and establishing a sense of commonality across a fragmented demographic.

The first of its kind, Lollapalooza quickly established itself as a lifestyle festival, pushing the envelope and exposing concert goers to a subculture of 'alternative' living and art, and provided a platform for numerous environmental and human-rights causes as well. As a constant creative force, Farrell continues to push his own artistic horizon as a music producer, electronic music performer and visual artist, as well as a rock icon.

Winners Announced for Lollapalooza?s HackLolla Challenge, An Open Data Application Challenge for Developers and Music Fans

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 13, 2011

Lollapalooza, one of world?s biggest international music festivals, today announced the grand prize and popular choice winners of the HackLolla challenge, an open data application challenge that invited developers to build web and mobile apps using Lollapalooza?s recently opened API.

The Grand Prize winner, Veokami for Lollapalooza, was developed by serial entrepreneur Brett Welch and his team Chris Hartley and Matt Read. Development started on May 6, 2011 at Music Hack Day in San Francisco.

The winning app helps fans relive their favorite Lollapalooza performances by collecting and chronologically organizing fan-sourced YouTube videos. The app offers fans more than one perspective through multiple camera angles and the ability to tag friends and comment on specific ?moments? during video clips. Veokami for Lollapalooza is still in private beta and it will be launching in time for use at Lollapalooza in August.

?We were really excited by the variety in the HackLolla entries, and especially by the creativity and utility of the Grand Prize winning app,? said Michael Feferman, Digital Director at C3 Presents, the producers of Lollapalooza. ?Veokami for Lollapalooza is unlike anything we?ve seen before, and we think it will significantly improve the post-festival experience for our fans.?

The HackLolla Popular Choice winner, as voted for by fans, is Who?s Now Who?s Next- Lollapalooza 2011 Edition, an app developed by a team headquartered in Chicago that has attended 11 Lollapaloozas collectively.

The app, currently available in the Android Market, helps festival-goers categorize and plan out what upcoming Lollapalooza acts they wish to experience. It operates as a completely native app and once downloaded can function fully without Internet access.

HackLolla was powered by ChallengePost, a public platform that enables social problem solving. During the challenge submission period developers created 19 distinct mobile and web applications that help fans to get the most from their Lollapalooza experience before, during and after the Festival.

?HackLolla brought together music lovers and developers around the country in a combined effort to enhance the 2011 Lollapalooza experience,? said ChallengePost CEO, Brandon Kessler. ?It?s a powerful example of how open data and developer innovation can benefit both a brand and its many stakeholders.?

Lollapalooza will open its gates on August 5-7, 2011 in the heart of Chicago at Grant Park. This year -- the festival?s 20th anniversary -- is led by Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse, My Morning Jacket, deadmau5, A Perfect Circle, Cee Lo Green, Damian ?Jr. Gong?
